BOOK THREE...

Wings Over the Amazon

Author: A. J. Osorio

The next generation of the Gomez family is placed against the backdrop of the Roaring Twenties and early years of aviation. Drug lords, international airline magnates, and a South American war challenge their commercial airline: Aereo Oriente. But none is as much a distraction, yet an asset, for the son of Ricardo Gomez, as Dee Braun. In the skies, she is an accomplished aviatrix, but in speakeasies, boudoirs of too many men, she is the bold Flapper. Is she drawn to Vicente Gomez because of who he is, or his connection to the rain forest of las Amazonas?

BOOK ONE.....

The Journalist of the Magdalena

Author: A. J. Osorio

An historical fiction set in early 1900s Colombia during its War of the Thousand Days. The story extends to 1910, past the international scheme which lead to the Panama Canal. This is a coming of age story of a young Ricardo Gomez who pursues, in almost quixotic fashion, a first love torn from him by the civil war. He endures the war with success, but his series of lusty relationships, are received by his mother with considerable displeasure.

The graphic descriptions of the horrors and violence of war, and his intimacies disclose Ricardo's early adulthood as one filled with turbulence.

BOOK TWO...

The Emeralds of Santa Cristina

Author: A. J. Osorio

This sequel to the JOURNALIST OF THE MAGDALENA takes Ricardo Gomez through the first third of the last century. The wars he covers as a journalist, and then a noted sportswriter, leads him to women who bear striking resemblances to a first lover. But are they just his imaginary returns of a lost love, or his latest objects of lust? The women are pleased; but his mother is appalled. She expects a wife for his sons. He expects the lost Mercedes. When she does appear, she is a married scientist, uncomfortable with being a mistress. A strange threat keeps them apart, but when the theft of the emeralds of Santa Cristina is recovered, events change. A fledgling aviation business bolsters their romance, and when they are in los Amazonas, Ricardo makes a discovery.

A Summary

This nonfiction is a field manual designed as a Reenactor’s guide for a battalion of the American Revolutionary War. The pages come alive with hundreds of photos.  Many were taken during the 200th Anniversary Commemorative skirmishes of the east; many done in Florida . The use of weapons, descriptions of uniforms are supported by the author’s twenty year experience and are detailed in sections called: Reenactors Notes. Hundred of footnotes, pages of archival sources (including Internet websites) and suggested readings support the depth of the work.  Reenactors of la Luisiana battalion of the Rev War (240 years old!) should appreciate an authentic military manual.

There’s a discussion of the period, many historic figures of the American Revolution, and descriptions of the campaigns of Don Bernardo de Gálvez.

The author was a 12-year member of the nationally recognized reenactment/living history organization—the Brigade of the American Revolution.

Phantom Reflections
                                                        A summary

Although it took place over three decades ago, the Vietnam War seems to be a scar that will not fade.  This memoir/essay details the journey of an eager young pilot fearful that the war might end before he cound take to the skies.  Starting in the early sixties, this account captures the thoughts and feelings of anidealistic young pilot as he seeks adventure, glory, and excitement in what he believes to be a worthy cause.

The narrative covers Colonel McCarthy's assignment to the F-4 Phantom II fighter, at the time one of the most capable fighter planes available, details the extensive training necessary to turn him into a fighter pilot, and follows him as he is thrust into the midst of the intense air campaigns over North Vietnam and Laos. The numerous descriptions of "toe curling" missions give the reader a realistic feeling of what it was like to be in combat, but, more than that, it shows how America's longest and most divisive war was perceieved by those who were at the very sharpest point of the spear.  Unlike many fighter pilot narratives of combat, McCarthy's retrospective account allows an opportunity to reexamine his past beliefs, and he candidly discusses why they have altered significant.  While the accounts of air combat are riveting by themselves, these reflections prove to be equally fascinating.
