THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR WEBSITE

YOU ARE WELCOME TO VISIT OUR OPEN MEETINGS:

Acceptance into the writing group as an active writer is not a right.  The New Cactus Quills.com of Arizona and its Internet writing critique unit, is a private identity, and reserves the right to limit the size of the group, and the acceptance of a writer.  Success in other fields, professions, academia or even in the published area does not mean a writer will be accepted.

A bit of our history:

    New Cactus Quills.com of Arizona

began its roots in 2002, and has evolved over the last 6-years. It was one of the oldest continuously working monthly writing critique group in the West Valley of Maricopa County, Arizona open to the general public.

Today, its earlier titled group: Southwest Valley Writer's Group now functions only on the Internet.

Sections are free!  They are small.  They make use of the Internet.

Some orientation or open gatherings are found in popular locations such as a bookstore or coffee shop, others in private homes.  Visitors must e-mail ahead, since it has been found the open meeting is an option that is sometimes not attended by a 'maybe' person.

In 2006, Adopt-A-Manuscript began.  The project was abandoned in 2007. Two of its (4) authors later published their work.

In 2008, new writing partners were added for those who were interested in e-Book publishing.

The writing group began a friendly relationship with an e-Book publishing company.

In 2009, plans are set in order to support serious writers interested in e-Books.

February 2007, the writing group reorganized its critique process under the title

The West Valley Reader's Writing Group

In this phase of the group, reading was encouraged and for the first time writer partners needed a completed manuscript.  In addition, a shift from large numbers to smaller ones was the new theme.  A cap of 6-8 writing partners began.

January 2008the writing group became an Internet in format and returned to its earlier name the:

                              Southwest Valley Writer's Group

A membership cap was set at not more than (6) writers with a completed manuscript of certain genre.

Internet activity was encouraged as life-styles of writers and high cost of gas made set meetings a challenge.  However, long-distance writers joined, several from other states.

Writing partners now join with the purpose of publishing within a year in e-book format or any other method they may find a publisher for their completed manuscript. While the e-book format is supported, the standards of writing are constant.  The newer format allows for further discussions and exchange of information.

Still free...

See you at our next Orientation Meeting...
(no meetings July, August, November and December)
